Slovenian-Belarusian economic cooperation
At the end of 2019, Belarus ranked 53th among Slovenian foreign trade partners. Despite the fact that the indicators do not reflect the potential for cooperation, in recent years there has been a tendency in increasing trade and direct investment between the two countries. The trade balance is dominated by exports, 38% of which are pharmaceuticals, while imports are dominated by artificial and synthetic fibers.
An important role for the development of bilateral economic cooperation is played by the Intergovernmental Slovenian-Belarusian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, the 8th meeting of which was held in February 2020 in Ljubljana.
Opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation, according to interest and potential, lie mainly in the fields of engineering, energy, logistics and transit, the automotive, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, information and telecommunication technologies, metal processing, food processing and tourism.
In 2015, a consulate of the Republic of Slovenia was opened in Minsk, led by an honorary consul, and in 2011- the Slovenian-Belarusian Business Club.
